The Michigan State Police’s Fifth District post in Niles, 1600 Silverbrook Ave., is participating in a district-wide food collection. Collections will also be held in Paw Paw, Marshall, Wayland, and the district headquarters. Items can be dropped off in the lobby of each post Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. starting Nov. 1.
The items collected will be distributed to local food banks.
According to the state police, the most needed items this year are peanut butter, canned fruits, canned vegetables, cereal, soup, beans, ready-to-eat meals such as macaroni and cheese.
Also needed are: toilet paper, soap, detergent, deodorant, and other needed household and hygiene items.
The food drive will end Nov. 30.
