Meeting Minutes|

The meeting was called to order at 10 a.m.

Present: Bruno Eidietis, president; Rick Marneris, vice president; Pat Kelley, treasurer

26 lake residents were in attendance

TREASURER’S REPORT
Pat Kelley reported the balance in April was $44, 767.30. Income included 420 in dues, $26.38 in interest and $40 donated to the BLA in Ted Pilewski’s name.

Expenses included: deposit for boater safety class on June 22 ($50), making total money in account $45,203.68. Discussion included suggestions on how to spend the money donated in Ted’s name. No decision was reached.

WATER LEVEL

Bruno said water level is high and we’re keeping it at that point. The overflow outlet is working to keep water at the right level. The overflow outlet extends under M60. The last few weeks the water level has maintained at the legal level.

The board thanked Fred Fornell, Tom Hable, Marty Scott and Norbert Wleklinski, for their continued work with Bruce (drain commissioner) during the winter to make sure the lake was pumped to legal limit and then let nature take its course. There also was discussion about the installation of a second pump possibly at a later date. No decision was reached.

WEED TREATMENT

The board thanked Tom Hable for the work he has been doing regarding weed treatment. The method being used is different than in previous years. Instead of just “blasting” the lake, this company is specifically targeting areas of concern where there is curly weed and milfoil. The company has treated twice and is coming back June 18 to check on the progress. If these weeds are not growing back again, they won’t treat. Will study again after the 4th of July and will be back to kill if need be. Tom said the goal is to stop the milfoil step-by-step so there is less as time goes on. This is a “kill at the root” treatment. This is a new treatment being used at other lakes with a good amount of success.

Paul Nelson made a motion to give authority to the lake association to advance money from the treasury is funds are short for weed treatment costs. This would be based on affirmation from the township that it would reimburse the treasury. It would be a maximum of $10,000. Motion was seconded by Marty Scott. Motion passed with no nay votes.

CASS COUNTY FAIR

Pat Kelley said the BLA will help at the Cass County Fair but will only man one gate—the front walk-in gate. The fair runs from July 29 through Aug. 3. We will need to fill three shifts per day. Fair is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. She estimates needing about 8 people per day for six days. People who are interested should call Pat at (269) 720-0066.

BOAT PARADE

Bruno announced there will be no boat parade this year. After last year’s, Heather Shelby asked for volunteers to help with next year’s parade and it’s believed there were no volunteers.

FACEBOOK

Keith Stelter reported he started his own Facebook page for Barron Lake residents only. It is called BarronLakeResidents.

FISH STOCK

Tom Hable reported the lake was stocked in November with 1,000 walleye.

BOATING CLASS

The BLA is hosting a boating safety course on Saturday, June 22.

ELECTION OF OFFICERS

Bruno noted there will be an election at the August meeting. Anyone interested in running for president, vice president, secretary or treasurer, should contact Bruno for more information.
