I hope everyone enjoyed the “4th of July” weather we had over the Memorial Day weekend. It was great to see people enjoying the start of what hopefully will be another fun-filled Barron Lake summer.
I would like to welcome the Barron Lake weekenders, as well as those who are new to the lake. As a board, we look forward to meeting and seeing all of you.
An issue I need to address pertains to the laws of the lake for all watercraft. I received a number of texts and calls from association members concerned about boaters showing disregard for lake safety laws. I understand some people are new to the lake and it might be their first time owning a home on a lake. We also have a number of homeowners who rent their properties. With that said, they may not be aware of boating safety laws. It’s also important that those who rent their homes make sure the tenants are aware of these laws.
The main complaint I received this past weekend was about boaters not adhering to the counter-clockwise direction for all watercraft. I also received complaints of wave runners jumping the wakes much too close to boats. The law in Michigan states personal watercraft cannot come with 150 feet of a boat.
I encourage everyone to click the link to boating safety laws from the state of Michigan. We also plan to provide a PDF of some of the laws that pertain most to the way our lake is used. We will make that available to association members so they can print and keep for future reference for themselves and/or their renters.
Thank you, and I look forward to seeing everyone. It’s also my hope you will become an association member. The dues, $20, are due by July 1, and you should have received a reminder postcard in the mail. If you have any questions, please contact me.
