The month of August was a very dry month here at Barron Lake. According to our friend and neighbor Norbert Wleklinski, we received only 1.27 inches of rain in the month of August. It turns out to be the driest month we have had since Norbert began recording for the association 11 years ago. As we all have noted, the average temperatures for August were above normal as well. Mother Nature hit us with a solid right hook and put us on our heels to end the summer.
As all the regular attendees of the association meetings can attest to, we have always made it crystal clear that any supplemental well will only slow down the process of evaporation from heat and winds. They will never have the pumping ability to fill any lake on its own.
At this time we should be thankful for the rainfall we received at the end of June/beginning of July. Without that precipitation and the supplemental well, we would have had lake level issues much sooner. The board will be in contact with the Cass County Drain Commissioner soon to discuss and decide on a plan for pumping for 2025. We will update the membership when details become available.
Continue with monthly gatherings?
On a side note, some members have expressed an interest in continuing a monthly gathering at Lakeside Bar and Grill during the winter months for the year-round residents—and of course any who do spend time at the lake during the winter. We would just have to decide on what day and week of the month. If those interested could like to work it out, you can let us know and we will send a newsletter out to inform all our members. This will in no way impede on our summertime socials put together by our very dear friends, Jen and Mike Jacobson.
Wishing everyone a great fall season.
