Blight Complaints

Howard Township residents who want to report blight in their area no longer should call a company who had been charged with handling the concerns. Residents should now call the Howard Township office at (269) 684-0072.

Planning Commission Meeting

The Howard Township Planning Commission is holding a special public hearing on Wednesday, Sept. 3, at 7 p.m., at the township office, 1345 Barron Lake Road, to consider the application by Pivot Energy in Denver, CO, requesting the inclusion of Large Solar Energy Systems within the Manufacturing District. The public is invited to attend the hearing and present opinions or positions relative to the subject of this hearing. Those who are unable to attend the hearing may send a letter stating their opinions or position to the Howard Charter Township Office, 1345 Barron Lake Road, Niles, MI, 49120, Attention: Zoning Administrator. NOTE: The application describing the action or relief being sought and Township Zoning Ordinance #192 is available for public inspection at the Township Office on regular business days during regular business hours. The township office is open Tuesdays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Closed Saturday, Sunday and Monday.)

Proposed Ordinance to regulate short-term rentals in Howard Township Howard Township is proposing to regulate short-term rentals (under 28 days) of single-family dwellings in Howard Charter Township. If approved, it would require annual registration, owner or local agent contact, proof of $1 million liability insurance, compliance with occupancy, parking, quiet hours and safety standards, and prohibit partial-home rentals, street parking, special events, fireworks and use of attics or basements as bedrooms. Violations could result in civil fines, suspension, or revocation of registration. If adopted, the ordinance would take effect 30 days after publication.
