When you drive past the boat launch on Lake Shore Drive, you should notice something new.
A large sign and additional video equipment were installed on Nov. 1. This project is an attempt to ensure that lake users understand and comply with watercraft laws and DNR fishing regulations. It’s also important for those operating watercraft to do so in a manner that is respectful of others on the lake and property owners.
The lake association board, with approval from the membership at the August meeting, voted to move ahead with the project. The motion was approved for the sign and video equipment at a cost that could not exceed $600. The final cost was $395. There is a security camera aimed at the entrance of the launch and one at the entrance to the water. The board acted on this project after hearing significant concerns from people who relayed their observations during our busy summer season.
The sign was developed with the cooperation and support of the Cass County Drain Commissioner, the Cass County Sheriff’s Department, and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
Special thanks to Jim and Molly Brawley for granting permission to attach the sign and equipment to their property fence on the west side of the launch.
