Despite results from a recent survey that were overwhelmingly in favor of a 2021 boat parade, we are canceling due to only a handful of residents registering for the event.
DEADLINE TO REGISTER IS THURSDAY, JULY 15, 2021
The annual boat parade on Barron Lake will be held on Saturday, Aug. 14, 2021. Coordinated by Debby Koulentes and MJ Markworth, the parade is a fun activity for people to enjoy whether participating or cheering from the sidelines.
The participation levels have been dropping so the Barron Lake Association conducted a survey to see if people on the lake still want a parade. The results showed overwhelming support to have a boat parade again this year. (Dozens of responses were received. Only one person said no–and one person suggested every other year.) So, Debby and MJ have agreed to coordinate the event.
Based on the survey results, there will be a few things that will be different from previous years.
The fun will be the same but here are a few changes:
—NO THEME In the past, the boat parade decorations have been based on a theme–television shows, music, sounds of summer, movies, etc. This year, based on results from a survey by the Barron Lake Association to residents, there will be no theme. Participants can decorate however they like–from a little to a lot.
—NO JUDGING In the past, persons who have lived off the lake have volunteered their time to judge the boats on their creativity, costumes, etc. There will be no judging this year. It is the intent of the parade coordinators to have people participate for the pure fun of getting together with family and friends to decorate and take some spins around the lake. (There could still be some prizes–but nothing is certain yet.) The time will be announced soon.
It is the hope of the ladies running the parade there are a good number of boats that will participate. It can be a pontoon, a speed boat or as was the case a few years back–a picnic table with a motor! Interested persons are asked to register so the coordinators will know how many will be participating. A specific number has not yet been set, but if it less than 10, it is anticipated there will not be a parade this year.
