The Howard Charter Township board at its May 19, 2026, meeting:
- approved a resolution to adopt a moratorium on data centers and battery energy storage systems (BESS) in the township for at least one year.
- approved the verbiage for a ballot measure to be placed on the August primary ballot, asking voters whether they want to keep the township as a charter or revert to being a general township.
- heard a presentation regarding the potential merger of SMCAS and Medic One ambulance services. The next step is a further study on the best model for operation, should a merger take place.
- Cass County Sheriff spoke of the 911 renewal coming due in the fall.
